January 11th, 1965 Journey started as Technical Teachers' Training Institute (TTTI), Calcutta, set up by the then Ministry of Education, Govt. of India: the first such institute of its kind in the country.
Status: Autonomous & fully funded by the Govt. of India.
Initially started with the Departments of Civil Engg., Mechanical Engg., Electrical Engg., Science, Education and Training & Placement with a sanctioned strength of 17 members of faculty.

Aim: To develop Technical Education system with focus on Polytechnic Education

Primary activity: Offering Long Term training to develop teachers for Polytechnics through Diploma in Technical Teaching programme of 2 ½ -year duration to Diploma holders serving in polytechnics.
