Learning resources development activities include promoting development of multi-modal instructional resource materials to cater to individualized needs of learning. A good number of learning materials in print and non-print forms including text books, manuals, monographs, multimedia learning packages and educational video films have been and are being developed. Besides, the Institute has also assisted the technical institutions of the Eastern Region in setting up Learning Resource Utilization Centres (LRUCs) for effective use of all types of learning materials. The Institute is also acting as a resource centre for educational video films telecast countrywide through education satellite channel (Gyan Darshan).

 

Activities Background  

 

Since 1970s Learning Resource Center (LRC) of this institute has been providing pioneering services in the area of development of learning resources not only for the polytechnic system but also for the technical education system as a whole. Realizing the fact that modern day technical education needs the support of appropriate learning resources, it was envisaged that LRC would act as a center for planning, producing, distributing LRs to the technical institutions as also for training institutional personnel in different areas of LR designing and production. LRs produced by the center include both Projected and Non-Projected media viz. 8/16mm film (at present these have been replaced by educational video films), Photography, Slide-tape programs, Chart & Model-making etc. With the advent of electronic media, the center has been geared up to respond to the emerging need for production of complementary and supplementary media resources. Over the years, the center has developed expertise in effectively utilizing the technologies of the day such as, VHS, U-Matic-Low band & Hi-band, Beta and Digital system. A fully equipped mini studio has also been developed, which is being utilized to produce scores of educational video films for Govt. sponsored Gyan Darshan Channel for consumption of all interested teachers and professionals. Since photography plays an important role in development of learning resources, traditional mode of photography with its variations e.g., B/W Slides, Blowups, Color reversal & Positive prints etc., are duly emphasized upon. Acknowledging the obvious advantages and fast induction of digital technology in all spheres of photography, the center, at present, is in the process of adapting Digital Photography to strengthen its overall capability of producing quality LRs. A major chunk of the Artwork for Slides, OHP Transparency and Posters/Charts are being developed with computer support system, side by side with traditional drawing & painting as training inputs. The center believes in need based flexible use of technology for the enrichment and enhancement of learning with a flavour of freedom for expression of creative ideas.

Conduct of Trainers Training Programme such as:

  1. 2 week training on Educational Video Production
  2. 2 week training on Photography &
  3. 2 week training on Development of Learning Resources & Utilization

 

 

Besides, the center also provides support services to various institutional activities such as:

  1. Media Support in various Courses/Activities of NITTTR
  2. Media coverage for documentation/record of activities
  3. Reprography and production of bound volume of Publications/Instruction Materials
  4. Providing Video Feedback for development of Teaching Skill
  5. Providing consultancy in setting up LRC & LRUCs
